Join us this Sunday August 26th for lots of fun in Southeast Portland!
There are lots of great events happening this Sunday August 26th – but two that we’re especially excited about … because we’ll be there! SE Sunday Parkways and the Hawthorne Street Fair! Get all the details below for family fun!
Sunday Parkways is a series of free community events opening the city’s largest public space – its streets – for people to walk, bike, roll and discover active transportation. Estimates put total attendance at the events above 300,000 since it began in 2008. Last year’s event is southeast saw more than 25,000 people counted. Residents and visitors say they come to enjoy the traffic-free loop of streets that connect parks and schools filled with activities, music and vendors. It’s safe, family-friendly and a chance to meet neighbors.
The 9-mile southeast Sunday Parkways route will connect Laurelhurst Park, Mt. Tabor Park, Ivon Park, Colonel Summers Park and the Universal Cycles Marketplace. Music, vendors and activities are located in the parks and along the route. It’s free to attend and open to the public from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Motorized vehicles are allowed to pass through the route at designated crossings and allowed on the route for resident and emergency access.
We will be at Ivon Park (SE 47th and Ivon) with free crafts and activities for all ages with our friends at Hands on Art & Play Preschool, free tile painting with our friends at Mimosa Studios, and of course our goofy photobooth in action. Swing by – first 200 folks will get a free reusable shopping bag filled with all kinds of goodies from local businesses!
Also at Ivon Park you will find Vitamin Water, Ruby Jewel (ice cream – yum!), Radz Candy, Flipside Hats and MORE! Activities, food, vendors, music, and fun will be in Laurelhurst, Colonel Summers, Ivon and Mt. Tabor Parks. Here’s the official event map:
Kids at Heart Hawthorne Street Fair Kid’s Area and Stage – SE 35th at Hawthorne – 11am-4pm. Come out and celebrate 25 years with our friends at Kids at Heart Toys! Here’s a schedule of the days happenings:
11:00 am – The delightful Lorna Miller will kick off our celebration with her special Little Kids Jamboree, a fun sing-along and play-along with beloved nursery rhymes.
Noon – Veteran of the Portland puppet stage, Penny of Penny’s Puppets will be performing two shows with her hand made puppets
1:00 pm – Mr. Ben, Portland’s most rock and roll guitar and ukulele player will kick it up a notch or two
2:00 pm – Veteran of the Portland puppet stage, Penny of Penny’s Puppets will be performing two shows with her hand made puppets
3:00 pm – The Amazing Spaghetti will wow kids and adults alike with his onstage antics, brilliant magic tricks and an over the top finale performance at 3 p.m.

We will of course be there dressing up and getting goofy. We also have a limited number of reusable shopping bags to pass out to lucky families!
