We are so excited to have been invited by Portland Parks and Recreation to come and play at a few of their 2012 Summer Free for All programs as part of our Summer of Fun 2012. Come and join the fun this Thursday (August 2) starting at 6:30 pm in Couch Park to listen to one of our favorite local bands – The Alphabeticians – fun, upbeat, original, quirky kids music for the whole family!!
If you’re not familiar with them – The Alphabeticians, Mister Hoo and Mister E, have been best friends since their salad days in the mid 80s. They formed The Alphabeticians after they both became fathers, heard some of the music that was promoted as “Kid’s” music and thought, “We can do better than that.” They combine humor, clever (mostly original) songs, interactive elements and an all around great stage show to entertain people of all ages. Adults have as much fun as kids at a typical show, where you’re likely to hear songs about numbers, size, dads, metaphors, bags, monsters, extinct fish and multiple alphabet songs. They have been performing as The Alphabeticians since 2009, but they have an estimated 47 years of combined experience playing and performing music, and have performed more than 470 shows.
We are, of course, huge personal fans of the ABC guys and are excited to come play with families at their show! Here’s what we’ll have going on under the PDX Kids Calendar umbrella!
- Child’s Play Toys will be making Paper Plate Shakers – come and decorate a paper plate, then we’ll help you turn it into a musical shaker! Cha cha cha!
- Olive Rootbeer (our most favorite balloon artist) will twisting and shaping balloons into anything your little heart desires!
- WeVillage will be painting faces and handing out balloons!
We will of course bring our goofy props and take your photo under our big rainbow umbrella – and have bright orange reusable shopping bags filled with valuable goodies for the first 250 to come by!
All activities are FREE and great for all ages! All supplies provided.
We will also be collecting school supplies for the KGW School Supply Drive! Supplies needed are: pencils, scissors, erasers, glue sticks, crayons, markers, colored pencils, notebook paper. Look for the blue bin at our Summer Events through Labor Day!
