The KGW School Supply Drive is an annual campaign which runs August 1 – Labor Day. The goal of the Supply Drive is to collect enough school supplies and cash to send 8,000 students in need back to school with the tools needed to learn and achieve.
Here are a few ways to participate:
- Donate school supplies at a participating collection site (over 75 locations and rising!)
- Donate online – where a $25 donation provides a child with the tools needed to learn for an entire school year.
- Host a collection bin at your business or organization.
Want to earn a free voucher to shop for your school or classroom? Schoolhouse Supplies is also looking for a few volunteer photographers to help capture images of volunteers packing backpacks for kids in need and delivering them in person as part of the Tools For Schools backpack giveaway program!
Photo shoots will take place at Madison High School (2735 NE 82nd Avenue, Portland, OR 97220). Open time slots needed are Wednesday 8/8: 10-noon, Wed 8/22: 10-noon and 1-3 pm, Friday 8/24: 2:30-4:30 pm.
Photographers need to provide their own camera and a disk of images within 2 weeks; in return, Schoolhouse Supplies will include your promotional information to their corporate sponsors, and a Shopping Voucher to their Free Store for Teachers (average value over $300) to donate to a local teacher or non-profit organization. Interested photographers can email Caitlin@
Schoolhouse Supplies was founded in 1999 as a way to support students and teachers throughout Portland Public Schools. They operate Oregon’s first and only volunteer-run Free Store to provide teachers with the classroom supplies needed to encourage the learning process for all students. Today, they are a nationally recognized leader in the Free Store movement, which creates direct links between students and members of the community.
