The Portland Spirit and Boys & Girls Aid are teaming up for a charity cruise. Proceeds will be donated to the Lori Miller Scholarship Fund and Boys & Girls Aid.

Boys & Girls Aid has served Oregon’s children since 1885. As the oldest child welfare agency in the state, Boys & Girls Aid continually works to impact the lives of children in need by providing safe housing, positive relationships with caring adults and tools to learn and grow. In addition to foster care, Boys & Girls Aid provides adoption services and temporary safe housing for youth in need.

The Lori Miller Scholarship was created to honor the memory of Lori Miller who lost her battle against breast cancer on February 17, 2010. Lori was an employee and even more importantly a family member of the Portland Spirit for over 15 years and will always be missed. Scholarships are given out in Lori’s name to further the education of children which was always near and dear to Lori’s heart.

The group’s founding member, Jacob Merlin, is a Portland Native who learned to tickle the ivories at the wholesome age of four. Brought up on both classical and jazz standards, Jacob began to develop his music ability in composition, orchestration, and performance throughout his high school and college years. In 2000 Jacob moved to Nashville and immersed himself in the city’s music scene. With a newfound confidence and experience, he returned to Portland to start a band of original funk and rock inspired music. He found a city teeming with local talent and ready for something new.

The vessels and crew of Portland Spirit River Cruise Dining and Columbia River Adventures form the premier fleet of dinner ships in the Northwest. They offer public lunch, brunch, dinner and sightseeing cruises as well as specialty cruises throughout the year. There are 5 boats in the fleet including the Portland Spirit, Willamette Star, Crystal Dolphin, Outrageous Jet Boat and Columbia Gorge Sternwheeler normally out of Cascade Locks, OR. Portland Spirit also operates two land venues; the Terrace on Thunder Island and Gorge Pavilion in Cascade Locks.
