GIVEAWAY: “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” by the Oregon Children’s Theatre

Go ahead, ask any kid in Portland what happens if you give a mouse a cookie. Dollars to doughnuts, they’ll tell you that he’ll ask you for a glass of milk. And if they’re anything like my kids, they’ll keep going: “And a straw! And then a napkin, and a mirror to check for a milk mustache, and, and, and…”

Laura Numeroff’s well-loved modern classic is a natural for a theater adaption, and the Oregon Children’s Theatre’s new production of If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, running through June 3 at the Newmark Theater, is just right for its audience.

Kids will be wowed by the crazy size dramatics of this show. With 6’9” tall, Matt Haynes, playing an 8-year-old boy and 5’3” tall Kerry Ryan playing the mouse, all bets are off and the unexpected becomes normal. The playful duo shakes things up with physical comedy that will have kids rolling in the aisles. The potential for mayhem is great in the giant, oversized kitchen set – from a sink sprayer that a mischievous mouse use to repel down 6’ tall kitchen counters to an 11’ tall refrigerator that can be climbed like a mountain.
